I am an emeritus U.S. Geological Survey volcanologist based in Vancouver, Washington, USA. My passions include science, photography, and the natural world. During my research career, I have been fortunate to travel to exotic places such as Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand, and to work on active volcanic systems in Hawaii, the U.S. Pacific Northwest, and Yellowstone National Park. Wildlife photography has been a serious pursuit of mine for more than two decades, with recent excursions to South Africa, Costa Rica, and the Galápagos Islands.
